One Long Night

...for stupid reasons, makes for one groggy and cranky domy the next day. Spent most of the night working on finding 250 songs for my shuffle. It didn't take 250 songs; it took 124. So today I've removed about 80 (never made it to 250), but am puzzled. :P

At least it's taken care of for now.

Okay, so on the to do list today:

» 1000 words on Phoenix
» "Pretty Things" revisions

Honestly? Have no idea other than that. Just not quite awake enough to decide to do more than that. lol I'm sure something else will come up. The kids are home. Something ALWAYS comes up, it just may not be writing related. :P

Today's Feel Good Things: It is cold and icky gray with rain on the way yet again and freezing temps expected tonight so tea. Definitely tea. And staying in my warm bed as much as possible while working.

Music will help. Must wake up or writing will be lame at best. :P

A Lesson For Me

  • Oct. 22nd, 2008 at 11:51 PM
lessons in writing, progress, lessons, updated, updates
Lately there's been a real attitude change on my end. It's actually been going on for months and, as far as I could tell, had no distinct source. Yea, we've had financial problems with the unemployment, but this started after the man found a job and before we realized the job was low paid slavery. There's been some stuff going on with my job as well, but, again, the attitude change started before those issues became major -- though the attitude change is seriously affecting how I approach those issues. And tonight I think I finally realized what's going on: I'm not writing.

Oh, I'm revising A.C., but that's not writing. Phoenix is kind of writing, but it's still not fresh words writing (well, actually, it is since I'm now going from narrative draft to actually writing scenes and whatnot), and I don't work on it consistently enough for it to count because I've been so focused on A.C.

I've dealt with this problem before, but I seem to keep needing to relearn it. Not sure why that is -- you'd think I'd get it after the second or third time of becoming nearly impossible to live with. But then again, my novel taking 17 years to get from my first attempt to a completed rough draft really shows how slow I can be on the uptake. But hopefully I get it now.

So, starting tonight, there will be a new permanent goal on my weekly list: writing new words. I'm not going to specify what I write -- it can be Phoenix, it can be a new short (hey! A reason for short stories for me after all!), it can be anything creative, but the words must be NEW. Not revisions. Not rewrites. New words.

Goals This Week
Work:
» catalogue tweaks
» website updates/tweaks
» slush
» Snow round 2

Writing/Personal
» 1500 new words
» A.C. 29.4 & 29.5
» 3 DII crits :: 1
» sekret projekt work ;)
» new Meta
» journals: whysper, journeys
» exercise :: 3 days
» daily reading

For tonight's work, I still need to work on dishes (almost done) and make bentos, but everything else is being set aside to work on new words. I have a short I stopped working on when I dumped my short for awhile, and that's what I'm going to work on. When I get off the comp around 3 or so, I might pick up A.C., but for comp time there will be no slush, no editing, no working on websites, no crits. Just new words.

And a need to remember splat theory. ;)

Saving The Idiot Talk For Later

  • Aug. 27th, 2008 at 11:24 PM
reads, cool stuff, wips
Today has been a day, but the suckiness of it has shown what wonderful, dedicated people we have at DII. When I do Admin stuff, one of the things I need to do is remove members. And part of that is removing them from the elist. Now the elist is not on the DII domain -- the elist used by that server totally sucks: it has no flexibility, no options for the subscribers, and a max character limit of 40k, which means even my 3500 word chapters for A.C. are bounced back as too big. Because of this, the elist is housed on the only domain that i pay for hosting with right now. Imagine my surprise when I go to the elist Admin page and it says the elist does not exist. Then I go to the domain page and it says the account has been suspended.

Since I didn't get any notice of payment needed, I can only suspect that I somehow forgot to update my email in their records when I switched emails to flee the massive spam I was getting. Not that having done so would have saved it -- the financial stresses of late might have made it go belly up anyway, but knowing what was going on would have better helped me prepare for it.

Yes, I'm an idiot. A distracted idiot, but an idiot none the less.

Oh, wait, I said I'd save that for later.

Anyway, since we switched to the sucky, restrictive elist until I can sort this out, no less then 3 members have contacted me offering to help. I still have to hear back from billing since I can't log into the hosting site anywhere to even begin to fix this and am still unsure of the amount, but once I know, I'll be letting the members who want to help know too. If all goes well, hopefully we'll have the site back up on Friday or Saturday. We shall see. But it is very nice that members are so dedicated that they will bail me out of a snafu like this.

But, of course, I still feel like an idiot. :P

I suspect that only one of them will be able to do anything in time, but maybe I can convince the others who want to help to send a portion of the money to her so she's not shouldering the whole burden of the domain hosting fee.

Goals This Week
Work:
» editing: TP (round 3!)
» slush as it comes in :: and we got some, WOOT! ;)

Writing/Personal
» A.C. 26.4 & 26.5
» A.C. world building: ch. 28 walk-ons, Aerenfyal, and Kalenthias
» 3 DII crits
» DII Admin stuffs
» 1500 on Phoenix
» Phoenix world building: Elahi, Tiroshen, Kree, Tanere, House Thalionrhoe
» alden.nu resources update :: started
» new Meta
» journals: whysper, journeys

Tonight's plans are simple: finish 26.4, dishes, slush reading, and a shower. If there's still time after all that, then we'll see. Be watching for a 26.4 word count post -- it WILL be done tonight. I also may finally have a new Meta to write and post. We shall seeeeee....

Which means a much more productive night than spending a bunch of time on the PS2 and praying I'll stay awake until 5:30 AM. :P

*smacks forehead*

amused domy, silly domy, crazy domy
So, I've been rewriting my notes that I use for all my revisions of A.C. on each new chapter. Now, these notes have gotten quite long, so they really do take up a lot of space.

And tonight I realized what an idiot I was being.

See, I love post-it notes, so much so that I run the TFL Post-It Notes fan listing (yea, blame the kid in me). I collect these buggers. I see a new one and it takes everything I have not to buy. Yea, I know, silly. Or weird. Take your pick.

Anyway, among my most recent post-it note purchases (meaning, like, before Christmas since that was the last time I was in a store with post-it notes) was this long pad. Decently long pad. Long enough to write all my notes on and then stick to the current chapter in revisions. I can just move the post-it when I move on to a new chapter and replace it when it loses its sticky.

There's even room for me to add a few more notes as needed.

Yea, took me 17 chapters to realize this.

*sigh*
